“And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”
Anaïs Nin
Therapy is a broad term that encompasses a wide range of methods and techniques. So what can you expect when working with me?
Each person is unique, and that means that not all therapeutic methods will be right for everyone. This is why I tend to work from a trauma-informed integrative approach that is informed by multiple theories and modalities.
This approach means that we will collaborate together to decide which methods will work best for you and your unique needs, utilizing both top-down (mind to body) and bottom-up (body to mind) as needed.
Because humans are naturally relational, you can very likely expect on our work together to look at key relationships and social and cultural ideologies and traditions that have shaped you and your story.

Theories & Modalities
-
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy meets somewhere in the crossroads of CBT and EFT (see below) and is similarly well supported by research. With this method we’ll focusing on acceptance of thoughts and emotions in the service of valued living.
-
Attachment Theory is a framework grounded in thorough research that holds that relationships between individuals, particularly early bonds between infants and their primary caregivers, are paramount in the development of healthy social and emotional functioning.
-
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is one of the most robust evidenced-based therapies available. With this method, we'll work together to identify thoughts that aren't serving you and learn new, healthier ways of thinking that can make a real difference in your life.
-
Emotionally Focused Therapy is another evidence-based approach. With EFT we will primarily focus on your relationship with your emotions and explore the coping strategies that may be acting as barriers to emotional processing.
-
Have you ever felt torn and explained to someone that part of you wanted to do one thing while another part of you didn’t? Internal Family Systems is a therapeutic approach that sees these different parts within each of us operating much like families interact.
These sub-personalities consist of vulnerable parts of ourselves and the parts that try to protect them. With this approach, we will focus on understanding why certain parts are there and what they need to restore mental balance and harmony in your life.
-
In psychodynamic therapy, we explore how your past experiences and unconscious thoughts and feelings might be influencing your current emotions and behaviors. By understanding these underlying patterns, you can gain greater self-awareness and make more conscious choices in your life.
-
Somatic therapy is a form of body-centered therapy that uses both talk therapy and physical techniques for a more holistic approach to healing.
Practitioners of somatic therapy address what can be seen as a split between the body and mind in many modern therapeutic approaches. It holds that the mind and body are intimately connected, though not always in apparent ways. Thought, emotions, and sensations are all believed to be interconnected and influence one another.
Often, when our nervous system gets stuck in fight or flight, it can be more helpful to work with the body to help calm the mind. This is a commonly used approach in situations where trauma or complex trauma are present.
